Take it away Andrew:

Well, yes and no. In 2004, we knew Bush was a failure. Hence my decision to give someone else a chance. On September 12, 2001, I wrote in this space:

“The only question is whether we will get the leadership now to deal with this or whether we will have to endure even worse atrocities before a real leader emerges.”

For well over a year after that, I did all I could to give this president the benefit of every doubt, until, in the weeks afer the Iraq invasion and the torture revelations, it became impossible to continue to do so. Four years later, I think we now all sadly know the answer to the question of whether we had the right leader at the right time.

Astroland-1

Unfortunately, Astroland has been sold to developer Thor Equities. We’ve enjoyed going to Coney Island a couple of times every season. Looks like we only get one more summer. If you have any doubts that the new Coney Island will suck, listen to the spokesman for Thor Equities:

“We’re thinking totally outside of the box,” said Silberstein.

Oh, well. I don’t have much hope.

Last weekend, we went to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. While it was OK, we happened into a sculpture exhibit by Ron Mueck. It was one of the most amazing art exhibits I’ve ever seen. The kids loved it and I was blown away. The amazing details and the haunting expressions captured in the photorealistic sculptures were captivating. Some of them are huge and some tiny. I highly recommend seeing his work.

I know a couple of people who celebrate their birthdays today. I know one who is ecstatic about the election results today, and one who is probably not. Here’s to a Happy Birthday for all.

Now I will celebrate:

Rick ‘bigot’ Santorum, GOODBYE!
George ‘racist’ Allen, GOODBYE!
George ‘oaf’ Pataki, GOODBYE!
Ken ‘hack’ Blackwell, GOODBYE!

Those are some things I’ve been waiting to say for a while and it feels good. Oh, and a hearty goodbye to Ted Haggard! The only thing better would have been to say goodbye to James Dobson.

If I have time, I may add some more goodbyes. Here’s hoping!
